The SMBL Game Score is a formula, largely based on John Hollinger's game score statistic, with some slight alterations to account for us not tracking turnovers or fouls and offensive vs defensive rebounds.
Our Game Score formula:
Game Score=0.8x(PTS)+0.5x(FGM)−0.6x(FGA)−0.4x(FTA−FTM)+1.0(REB)+1.2(STL)+1.0(AST)+1.0(BLK)
The purpose of the Game Score statistic is to put all of the statistics together into one number, while also accounting for efficiency, but ultimately allowing for easier evaluation of individual performance for awards such as: Player of the Week.
When selecting the Player of the Week going forward to ensure fairness and structure, we will look at both the players game score while also applying a team win bonus of 10 points(unless you are a previous winner). Another factor we will take in is if you are a previous winner, we will apply a -10 to your game score, we would ideally like the award to be won by someone new every week, but if your game score is so outrageous that it still is the leader after the 10 point deduction, we will reward a multiple time player of the week.
Player of Week Decider Formula = Game Score + Team Win Bonus(if you haven't won the award before) - Repeat Winner Cost (if applicable)
